Cohle Gallery is delighted to present "Enjoy the View," the first solo show in France by Ekaterina Popova. In this exhibition, the artist continues her series of romantic interiors and intimate domiciliary spaces, integrating French interiors and Parisian views.
Ekaterina Popova, a Russian artist born in Vladimir in 1988, now resides and works in Philadelphia, USA. Her artistic journey began after moving to the United States, where she discovered her passion for painting. She graduated from the University of Kutztown, Pennsylvania in 2011.
Throughout her artistic career, Ekaterina's work has revolved around the exploration of interiors. Initially influenced by her upbringing in Russia, her focus expanded to encompass the broader concept of "home" and its personal significance. Over time, her art has evolved from a reflection of sentimentality to a grounding force in her present environment. Ekaterina paints her own room regularly but also draws inspiration from other people's homes and photographs.
In "Enjoy the View," Ekaterina delves into the realm of romantic interiors and intimate scenes through her original oil paintings. These artworks capture the joy of experiencing the actual view while metaphorically representing the importance of being present and appreciating the people and moments in our lives. The decadent rooms portrayed, featuring unmade beds and open windows, allow the artist to playfully explore texture, light, and fabric using oil paint, creating a lush and dreamy atmosphere. Through skillful use of color and value, Ekaterina aims to transport viewers to a dreamy fantasy world and evoke the quiet spaces that hint at romance and intimacy, drawing inspiration from her travels to France and beyond.
